Fight against climate change ultimately a fight for humanity itself: Bilawal

Published on: June 6, 2026 3:28 AM

Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday has said that the fight against climate change was ultimately a fight for humanity itself, urging collective global action to confront one of the greatest challenges facing the world today.

The PPP Chairman, in his message on World Environment Day, said that recurring floods, droughts, heatwaves, water scarcity, and environmental degradation are painful reminders that climate change is no longer a distant threat but a harsh reality affecting millions of lives. “For countless families, climate change is not a debate or prediction; it is the loss of a home, a livelihood, a harvest, and, in many cases, a loved one,” he said.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed out that Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing only a negligible share of global emissions. Calling for climate justice, he said it is deeply unfair that nations least responsible for the crisis continue to bear its heaviest consequences. “Millions of people are paying with their lives, livelihoods, and futures for the emissions of wealthier nations,” he added.

Paying tribute to Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, he said their vision recognized the inseparable link between social justice, sustainable development, and environmental stewardship. He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to climate resilience, renewable energy, environmental conservation, and the protection of natural resources.

“The Earth is a trust we hold for future generations,” Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, adding, “Let us leave behind not a legacy of neglect and environmental destruction, but a future founded on hope, sustainability, justice, and harmony with nature.”
