Pakistan launches digital passport reforms for faster public services

Published on: June 26, 2026 12:51 PM

Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa has unveiled a comprehensive digital transformation plan aimed at making passport services faster, more transparent and easier to access through modern technology. The initiative introduces a passport mobile application, home delivery service and QR code-based digital payments to improve efficiency while eliminating delays and illegal practices.

The upcoming passport mobile application will allow citizens to apply for new passports, renew existing documents, track application progress and access essential services directly from their mobile phones. As a result, applicants will no longer need to make repeated visits to passport offices, making the overall process more convenient and user-friendly.

In addition, the department is preparing to launch a home delivery service that will enable applicants to receive their passports at their doorstep after completion. Officials believe this facility will reduce overcrowding at passport offices, save valuable time and significantly improve public convenience across the country.

Randhawa also announced that a QR code-based digital payment system will soon be introduced to ensure secure, transparent and cashless transactions. Furthermore, the new payment method is expected to curb corruption, discourage the role of middlemen and strengthen public confidence in the passport issuance process.

The director general said the reforms are being implemented under the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise public services. He added that the digital transformation reflects a strong commitment to building a transparent, efficient and citizen-focused passport system where technology delivers faster, fairer and more reliable services for everyone.
