FIA detains two deportees at Lahore airport after failed illegal journey to Italy

Published on: July 6, 2026 2:11 AM

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration on Sunday detained two Pakistani nationals at Allama Iqbal International Airport after they were deported from Tunisia for attempting to reach Italy through an illegal route.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the deportees, identified as Muhammad Anas and Muhammad Arsalan, arrived in Lahore on emergency passports aboard flight SV734 and were taken into custody by FIA Immigration upon arrival.

During preliminary interrogation, the two men disclosed that they had been residing in Saudi Arabia before traveling to Libya. They later attempted to enter Italy illegally by boat.

However, Tunisian authorities arrested them during the illegal journey and deported them to Pakistan.

The FIA transferred both suspects to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC), Lahore for further investigation and legal action.

Meanwhile; FIA arrested a passenger and a travel agent from Allama Iqbal International Airport for attempting to travel to Canada on a forged visa. According to FIA spokesperson, the passenger identified as Umar Jamil, was scheduled to travel to Canada on flight QR-621 when immigration officials found him suspicious during the clearance process. Upon examination, a Canadian visit visa affixed to his Pakistani passport was found to be forged.

During interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he had obtained the fake Canadian visit visa from an agent, identified as Atiq, after paying Rs 6.5 million. Acting on the passenger’s identification, FIA officials arrested the alleged agent from the airport premises. Both suspects were shifted to the FIA Anti Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC), Lahore for further investigation and legal proceedings.
