Pakistan unveils Hajj policy for 2027-2030

Published on: July 7, 2026 11:15 PM

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved Pakistan’s first four-year Hajj Policy and Plan for 2027-2030 to improve pilgrimage management through digitalisation and long-term planning. The new framework aims to enhance services and streamline Hajj operations for Pakistani pilgrims. The decision marks a major shift from the previous annual Hajj policy.

The policy was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to an official statement, the cabinet also praised Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and his team for successfully managing this year’s Hajj arrangements. Officials said the new policy would provide greater continuity and improve planning for future pilgrimages.

Under the framework, intending pilgrims will be able to register in advance for Hajj up to 2030 without interruption. The policy also introduces complete digitalisation of registration, operational procedures and financial transactions. In addition, it retains separate government and private Hajj quotas while offering both long and short Hajj packages to provide greater flexibility.

The cabinet directed authorities to appoint Hajj assistants through a transparent and merit-based process. During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif also briefed ministers on his recent visits to Iran and Türkiye. He said discussions with Turkish officials and investors focused on expanding cooperation in energy, mining, infrastructure and other priority sectors, expressing confidence that bilateral investment would increase.

The cabinet also approved a policy to outsource services at isolation hospitals and regional blood centres under prescribed regulations. Prime Minister Sharif paid tribute to Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, who was martyred while protecting a woman in Islamabad. The cabinet further honoured security forces for killing 15 militants in Balochistan, and special prayers were offered for the martyrs.
