The United States has launched a new wave of military strikes against Iran, targeting several military installations. According to US officials, the US strikes on Iran were carried out in response to alleged Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, marking another sharp escalation in regional tensions.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement posted on X that its forces had begun a series of “powerful strikes” against Iran. The military said the operation was intended to impose a heavy cost for what it described as attacks on civilian commercial shipping in international waters. CENTCOM also claimed that Iran’s actions were unjustified, dangerous, and a clear violation of the existing ceasefire.
According to US officials, the strikes targeted Iran’s air defense systems, coastal surveillance facilities, surface-to-air missile sites, anti-ship cruise missile launchers, and drone launch locations. Following the attacks, large flames and thick black smoke were reported rising from the area around Bandar Abbas.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported explosions in the southern coastal city of Sark as well as on Qeshm Island and in Bandar Abbas. However, the reports did not immediately confirm the cause of the explosions or provide details about casualties or damage.
The latest US strikes on Iran have significantly increased tensions in the region. Both countries are expected to issue further statements as the situation develops, while the international community continues to monitor events closely.
