President Donald Trump announced the end of the memorandum of understanding with Iran ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, declaring there would be no further negotiations with Tehran. The decision marks a major shift in US policy and raises fresh concerns over regional stability, global energy markets, and maritime security. Iran, international shipping companies, and countries dependent on Middle East oil exports are expected to feel the immediate impact.
Speaking in the Turkish capital, Trump strongly criticized Iranian officials, accusing them of dishonesty and claiming the United States had wasted significant time pursuing diplomacy. He alleged that Iranian leaders had targeted him personally for years and described them as incompetent. His remarks signaled Washington’s intention to abandon the recent diplomatic track and adopt a tougher approach toward Tehran. The comments came amid growing tensions following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command announced the completion of a large-scale military operation against Iranian targets. According to American officials, the strikes were launched in direct response to recent attacks on international shipping. More than 80 strategic sites, including air defense systems, command centers, and coastal radar installations, were reportedly targeted. Officials also claimed that over 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fast attack boats were destroyed to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten maritime traffic.
The United States also announced the suspension of Iran’s ability to legally sell oil, effectively ending one of the key economic benefits associated with previous diplomatic understandings. Following the announcement, Brent crude prices surged by more than five percent as investors reacted to fears of supply disruptions. Reports also described explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Qeshm Island, while the US Navy remained on heightened alert across the region. Analysts warned that further escalation could increase risks for global energy supplies and international trade.

The latest developments have intensified concerns that diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran have completely collapsed. Governments and security analysts are closely monitoring the situation, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. Although no new diplomatic initiative has been announced, fears are growing that continued military escalation could trigger a broader regional conflict with significant geopolitical and economic consequences.
