Israeli strikes kill five in Gaza

Published on: July 16, 2026 6:46 PM

At least five Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, according to Palestinian health officials. The attacks targeted multiple locations, including Gaza City and Khan Younis. The latest violence adds to concerns over escalating hostilities despite an October ceasefire.

Medics said Israeli airstrikes killed two people near the Tuffah neighbourhood and another in Gaza City’s Zeitoun suburb. A separate strike on a tent encampment for displaced people in western Gaza City killed one person and injured several others. Another attack on a vehicle in Khan Younis reportedly claimed one more life.

Witnesses said an airstrike also hit a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. The strike damaged several nearby homes, although casualty details were not immediately available. The Israeli military did not issue an immediate comment on the reported incidents.

According to Gaza health officials, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the October ceasefire took effect. Meanwhile, conflict monitor ACLED reported a sharp increase in Israeli airstrikes during June. Israel says its operations are aimed at preventing attacks by Hamas and other militant groups.

The conflict has displaced most of Gaza’s population, leaving many families in temporary shelters or damaged buildings. Humanitarian conditions remain severe as fighting continues across the territory. International attention remains focused on efforts to prevent further escalation.
