Syria claims foiling Hezbollah arms smuggling attempt

Published on: July 16, 2026 11:10 PM

Syria’s security forces have reportedly foiled an attempt to smuggle advanced weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to the Syrian Interior Ministry. Authorities said the operation was carried out near the Iraqi border. The development highlights continued regional concerns over illegal arms transfers.

The ministry said security forces recovered missiles, anti-tank missiles, and drones during the operation. Officials claimed the weapons were being transported for delivery to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Authorities did not provide further details about the quantity or origin of the seized equipment.

Syrian officials said investigations into the alleged smuggling network are ongoing. The ministry added that efforts have begun to identify individuals involved in the operation. Authorities pledged strict action against those using Syrian territory for illegal activities.

The Syrian government stated that it would not allow its territory to be used for weapons trafficking or other unlawful operations. Officials said security measures would continue to prevent similar incidents in the future.
