According to rescue officials, the incident occurred in the mountainous region of Matiltan when a glacier suddenly broke apart, bringing several people in its path under danger. Soon after receiving information about the incident, rescue teams launched an emergency operation to locate and assist those affected.
Officials said that six people were successfully rescued during the operation. Among them, three individuals sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Rescue authorities said their condition was being monitored.
However, one person remains missing, and teams are continuing search efforts in the affected area. Rescue workers are facing challenges due to difficult mountainous terrain and harsh weather conditions while attempting to locate the missing individual.
Glacier-related incidents have increased concerns in northern Pakistan, where rising temperatures and changing weather patterns have contributed to instability in glaciers and increased risks of sudden collapses and floods.
The mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are particularly vulnerable due to their large glacier networks and extreme weather conditions. Authorities frequently advise local communities and tourists to remain cautious while travelling in high-altitude regions.
Rescue officials said further updates regarding the missing person and the overall situation would be shared after completion of the ongoing operation.
