Families of policemen martyred in the deadly Ziarat terrorist attack ended their 10-day sit-in in Quetta on Saturday after reaching an agreement with the Balochistan government.

The protest, which began on July 9 at Koila Phatak, was staged by relatives of the slain officers, who had kept the bodies of seven martyrs at the site while demanding justice and accountability. Following successful negotiations, the bodies were shifted to their native areas, and the road was reopened for traffic after 10 days.
The demonstration followed the July 6 terrorist attack on a police post at the Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat district, where 27 policemen were martyred. According to officials, nine officers were killed during the initial assault, while 18 others were abducted and later murdered by the attackers.
Under the agreement, the provincial government accepted all demands presented by the families. Their primary demand was the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate both the Ziarat attack and the Hanna Urak incident, in which five tribesmen were killed, eight injured and 11 abducted.
The agreement was signed by Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove on behalf of the government and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Secretary General Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal representing the protesters.
As part of the agreement, the government announced that Koila Phatak Chowk would be renamed Shuhada-i-Ziarat Chowk. Several police stations, schools and healthcare facilities across Ziarat district will also be renamed after the martyred police personnel to honour their sacrifices.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the government had begun implementing the agreement immediately, describing the fallen officers as national heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect peace and public safety. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of the martyrs and ensuring all agreed measures are carried out without delay.
