Pakistan’s mobile phones imports recorded a significant increase during the fiscal year 2025-26, with the country importing devices worth Rs530.49 billion, according to newly released data.

The figures show that Pakistan’s dependence on imported mobile phones continued to rise during the year ending June 30, 2026. The surge reflects growing demand for smartphones and increased consumer reliance on digital devices for communication, business, education, and online services.
According to official statistics, mobile phone imports increased by 27.24 percent during fiscal year 2025-26 compared with the previous year. The rise indicates a strong expansion in the country’s mobile market despite ongoing economic challenges and pressure on foreign exchange resources.
The data further revealed that in June 2026, mobile phone imports increased by 11.73 percent on a monthly basis. On a year-on-year basis, imports during the same month also registered a growth of 1.07 percent.
Pakistan has witnessed rapid growth in smartphone usage over the past few years, with mobile devices becoming a key part of daily life. Smartphones are now widely used for digital payments, online shopping, remote work, social media, and access to government and private sector services.
However, the rising import bill for mobile phones also highlights concerns regarding the country’s trade balance, as Pakistan spends significant foreign exchange on imported consumer goods. Economic experts have emphasized the need to promote local manufacturing and assembly of electronic devices to reduce import dependence.
The government has previously introduced policies aimed at encouraging mobile phone assembly and manufacturing within Pakistan, resulting in increased local production by several companies. However, demand for advanced smartphones and premium devices continues to keep imports at a high level.

The latest figures come as Pakistan continues efforts to manage its external sector challenges, increase exports, and reduce unnecessary imports.
