LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the Maneka family has suffered a lot of embarrassment because of a fake propaganda targeting his marriage proposal to Bushra Maneka, a spiritual personality of Pakpatan, Punjab.
During an interview, Imran accused Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and some media houses of running a campaign to malign him.
“I have only spiritual relations with Bushra,” said Imran, adding he sent her the marriage proposal after her divorce.
“I feel hurt while talking about Bushra as she belongs to a spiritual family,” said the PTI chief accusing his opponents of interfering in his personal affairs to gain political benefits.
He further said that his family does not know about the marriage proposal.
The News had earlier reported that the PTI chairman welcomed 2018 by marrying Bushra Maneka—daughter-in-law of Ghulam Muhammad Maneka—on the night of January 1 in Lahore, and came straight from there the next day to appear before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad that granted him bail.
However, PTI and Imran Khan had denied the claims, saying only a marriage proposal was sent to Bushra.
The statement issued by the PTI stated that Khan has only proposed Bushra Maneka but she has asked for time to make a final decision. PTI requested the media to respect the privacy of both the families.
