Pakistan, Indonesia aim for global peace, says Indonesian president

Published on: January 26, 2018 9:33 PM

ISLAMABAD: Indonesia President Joko Widodo said on Friday that the country, just like Pakistan, aims for global peace and harmony.

Addressing the joint parliamentary session, President Widodo said that he was honoured to be standing in front of the attendees and that both Pakistan and Indonesia share a brotherly bond.

Widodo also said that Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, had endorsed Indonesia’s quest for Independence in 1945, while also saying that unity and harmony among the two nations is a priority for both.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, during his address, said that welcoming the president of world’s largest Muslim country is an honour for Pakistan.

Ayaz also said that the Indonesian president’s visit to the country is a proud moment for everyone and that both countries share a strong historic, religious and cultural accord.

President Widodo arrived in Pakistan on Friday on a two-day trip accompanied by First Lady Iriana Widodo, several ministers and a business delegation.

He was welcomed by Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, while a 21-gun salute was presented as the Indonesian president got off his plane.

According to a Foreign Office (FO) statement, President Widodo’s visit would further strengthen relationship between the two nations.
