Ali Raza Abidi quits MQM citing ‘personal reasons’

Published on: September 2, 2018 9:54 AM

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Ali Raza Abidi resigned from party’s basic membership on Sunday citing ‘personal reasons’.

“This is to bring to your attention that I will not be able to continue participation with MQM Pakistan due to personal reasons,” Abidi said in a letter written to MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, which was also posted on Twitter.

Sources said that the former MNA resigned from the party over disappointment of not being nominated for the NA-243 by-polls.

Abidi was not considered for the seat because he was supporting Farooq Sattar and not the Bahadurabad Group, it was added.

Farooq Sattar’s spokesperson confirmed that Abidi was ignored because he lent support to Sattar. “Farooq Sattar suggested Ali Raza for the seat because he did a lot of work in the constituency, but the leadership rejected Sattar’s suggestion,” said the spokesperson.

MQM-P has nominated Faisal Sabzwari to contest from the constituency which was left vacant after Prime Minister Imran Khan, who won from NA-243 during general elections 2018, chose to retain NA-95 Mianwali.
