IOK observes shutdown to mark Guru’s sixth martyrdom anniversary

Published on: February 9, 2019 1:43 PM

SRINAGAR: Indian occupied Kashmir has observed complete shutdown on Saturday to mark the sixth martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru.

The shutdown call was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

The shutdown is aimed at pressing the demand for the return of the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru and renowned Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, from New Delhi’s Tihar Jail to occupied Kashmir for decent burial.

The Indian forces have detained Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Muhammad Yasin Malik to prevent them from leading anti-India demonstrations on the occasion.

The authorities have also imposed restrictions in Doabgah, the native area of Muhammad Afzal Guru and different areas of Srinagar including Mahraj Gunj, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Khanyar and Maisuma to prevent any protest rally.
