An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs500 on Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Amir Khan and former party convener Farooq Sattar for arriving late in today’s hearing of cases pertaining to the May 12, 2007 riots.
The ATC-II judged directed them to deposit Rs500 each into the Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam fund.
Meanwhile, the court was informed that the provincial home department has issued a notification for jail trial of the 13 cases related to the May 12, 2007 carnage. The judge then wrote a letter to the anti-terrorism courts’ administrative judge in this regard.
Separately, the ATC took up cases pertaining to an attack on media houses as suspect Javed Shaukat’s lawyer cross-examined Judicial Magistrate Kaleemullah Kalwar’s statement. The judicial magistrate had conducted an identification parade of the suspects nominated in the case.
The hearing was adjourned till April 13.
Meanwhile, the court exempted MQM-P leaders – Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Rauf Siddiqui and Kunwar Naveed Jameel – from personal appearance during today’s hearing of cases pertaining to incendiary speeches of the MQM founder. The hearing was adjourned till April 20.
