Sethi’s defamation suit against PM Khan put off till May 30

Published on: May 19, 2019 1:49 AM

A local court, on Saturday, extended the deadline given to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s lawyer to record response in an Rs100-million-defamation suit filed by former interim Punjab chief minister Najam Sethi.

Additional Sessions Judge Amjad Ali Shah heard the case as PM’s counsel appeared in the court.

The lawyer requested the judge additional time to submit his response to the suit.

The court granted his request; directing him to file his response in the next hearing scheduled for May 30.

Earlier, Sethi had filed a defamation suit against the premier after being accused of fixing 35 punctures in the 2013 general polls.

He contended that Imran had levelled the allegations against him over facilitating rigging in 35 seats in the 2013 general elections in his capacity as an interim chief minister.

Sethi added that he had also sent a legal notice through his lawyer to PM Khan yet he did not respond.

After Khan had failed to respond even after six months, Sethi added that he was forced to file a defamation suit against the prime minister. The prime minister was continuously trying to malign his reputation through his “derogatory and false statements,” he added.
