A delegation of Pakistan, headed by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, is engaging as part of the four-nation talks on Afghanistan that began in Oman, Muscat from Monday.
The Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG), which includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and US, are in their attempt to revive talks with the Taliban in an effort to bring a negotiated peace settlement in the war-torn country and revive the Afghan peace process.
In conversation with the Voice of America just recently, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister seemed optimistic regarding the first QCG meeting: ““The quadrilateral arrangement will again be in operation. So, that is something we still hope will… still work.”
Meeting on Sunday, for the 6th Round of Pakistan-Oman Bilateral Political Consultations in Muscat, Tehmina Janjua and Dr. Mohammed Bin Awadh Al Hassan discussed political relations as well as economic and trade cooperation at multilateral forums.
Both sides expressed satisfaction at the close fraternal relations established and progress made so far.
The commencement of the next session of Joint Economic Commission (JEC) during the first quarter of 2018, was agreed upon during the first quarter of 2018. This was to explore ways and means in order to further bilateral economic and commercial relations.
The Foreign Secretary while briefing her counterpart on relations with neighboring countries also shed light on the situation of human rights in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
The mechanism of Bilateral Political Consultations was established in 2005 and is held alternately in Islamabad and Muscat.
