An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has revoked the interim bail of 16 leaders and workers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Among those affected are Sanam Javed, Mishal Yousafzai, and former provincial minister Raja Basharat. The decision relates to their involvement in a protest held on November 26.
During the court hearing, Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that the accused had misused the court’s leniency. He stated that they failed to attend court for four months, intentionally obstructing the investigation process. This non-compliance prompted the prosecutor to seek the cancellation of their bail.
The judge, Amjad Ali Shah, reviewed the prosecutor’s arguments and supporting Supreme Court references. Consequently, he decided to cancel the interim bail due to the ongoing failure of the accused to appear in court. This marked a significant action against the PTI figures involved.
Alongside Sanam Javed and Mishal Yousafzai, other individuals affected include journalist Sami Ibrahim and several others. They now face multiple cases registered against them in various police stations in Rawalpindi and Attock connected to the November 26 protest.
