KARACHI – Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif, said on Sunday that only the state has the constitutional authority to declare jihad. He stressed that no individual or group can make such decisions independently, as doing so undermines national security and unity.
Speaking during a special session with religious leaders and community representatives in Karachi, Gen. Sharif highlighted that followers of all religions in Pakistan are equal citizens. He emphasized that peace, harmony, and mutual respect are the foundations of national strength and progress.
He also pointed fingers at India, claiming it is involved in spreading terrorism in Pakistan. However, he assured that the Pakistan Army is responding effectively using modern warfare tactics and remains fully committed to defending the nation.
Furthermore, the ISPR chief urged people to reject ethnic or linguistic divisions, calling them a form of ignorance. He added that the country’s future depends on the unity of its people, and when united, no external threat can break Pakistan’s strength.
Participants at the meeting welcomed the army’s efforts to promote interfaith harmony and national dialogue. Many expressed hope that such initiatives would continue, as they play a vital role in building trust and cooperation among communities.
This gathering marked an important step in encouraging inclusive discussions and reaffirming that Pakistan belongs equally to all its citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
