NDMA issues 48-hour heavy rain alert across Punjab, KP, and Sindh

Published on: June 27, 2025 5:53 PM

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Sindh. According to NDMA, the next 48 hours will bring strong winds and heavy downpours to several regions. The alert highlights possible risks of flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and hilly areas. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay updated with weather information.

In Sindh, districts like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Tharparkar, Badin, and Umerkot are expected to receive intense rainfall. These rains may come with thunderstorms and strong winds. Urban flooding could occur due to poor drainage systems. NDMA has urged local administrations to stay prepared for emergencies. Citizens should secure loose items and avoid driving in flooded areas.

Similarly, heavy showers are expected in northern cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Mianwali. The rain may disrupt traffic and power supply in urban areas. In addition, NDMA forecasts downpours in KP cities like Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Bannu, and Waziristan. People living near rivers or slopes must remain extra cautious.

Moreover, the NDMA warned about the possibility of landslides in mountain regions. Sudden floods may also hit low-lying villages. Transitioning into peak monsoon season, the weather could change rapidly. Emergency services have been alerted to stay on standby. NDMA is working with provincial governments to ensure quick response if needed.

In conclusion, the public is urged to stay indoors during storms and follow official safety guidelines. Travelers should check weather updates before starting their journeys. Schools and offices in sensitive areas may also issue safety instructions. NDMA has reminded everyone that early action and caution can save lives. Stay safe and informed during this wet spell.
