Karachi and Lahore on high alert for 9th muharram processions

Published on: July 5, 2025 10:19 AM

Tight security arrangements have been finalized for the central 9th Muharram processions in both Karachi and Lahore, as the country observes the solemn day. In Karachi, the main procession will begin at 1 PM from Nishtar Park, following a religious gathering where prominent scholar Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi will deliver a sermon.

After the majlis, congregational Zohrain prayers will be held, organized by Imamia Students Organization. The procession will then proceed through its traditional route: Numaish, Saddar, Radio Pakistan, Jama Cloth, and Denso Hall, before concluding at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

In Lahore, the central 9th Muharram procession will begin at 10 AM from Pandu Street. Over 147,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for security duty. Special instructions have been issued to Dolphin Squad and the Police Response Unit (PRU), who will conduct round-the-clock patrolling in shifts.

According to SP Dolphin Arslan Zahid, the teams will be stationed at Imambargahs, majlis venues, and other sensitive areas. They will maintain continuous coordination with Rescue 1122, Fire Brigade, and Police Helpline 15 to ensure immediate response and protection, especially for women and children.

Authorities aim to maintain peace and safety during the religious events, with law enforcement agencies on high alert across key urban centers. The comprehensive plan is part of nationwide efforts to safeguard Muharram processions and gatherings.
