Pakistan and Russia push forward on energy and defence plans

Published on: July 15, 2025 5:22 PM

Pakistan and Russia agreed to boost cooperation in several areas including trade, energy, agriculture, and defence. The agreement came during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The two met on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Tianjin, China.

During the talks, both sides expressed happiness over their steadily improving relationship. They discussed practical steps to increase business links, share technology, and expand energy and defence cooperation. Ishaq Dar also officially invited Lavrov to visit Pakistan to continue the dialogue.

Later, Dar met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People. He delivered warm wishes from the people and leadership of Pakistan. Dar called the Pak-China bond “iron-clad” and said both countries are committed to peace, prosperity, and shared goals in the region.

Dar also joined other foreign ministers from SCO member countries in a joint meeting with President Xi. The Chinese president welcomed the leaders and said the SCO plays a powerful role in promoting peace and progress across Eurasia. He called for stronger unity and regional collaboration.

Dar’s three-day visit to China underlines Pakistan’s active role in regional diplomacy. He was invited by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to attend the SCO meeting. Through these meetings, Pakistan aims to build stronger economic and security ties with key global powers.
