ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced plans to install 3,100 new surveillance cameras across Islamabad to further enhance its Safe City project and improve citywide security monitoring.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement during his visit to the Safe City Headquarters. He also inaugurated the Online Women Police Station and the “One Info App,” praising Islamabad IG Ali Nasir Rizvi for his efforts in modernising city policing.
Naqvi stated that the “One Info App” will allow citizens to quickly report emergencies and seek help, especially women and vulnerable groups. He emphasized that digital platforms must work effectively to ensure timely support and response.
While chairing a meeting at the headquarters, Naqvi said the Safe City project has been crucial in crime prevention. He urged authorities to adopt artificial intelligence and smart technology to make Islamabad a model of urban security.
Moreover, he instructed officials to connect Islamabad’s system with similar projects in other provinces. He added that linking systems would improve real-time data sharing and boost national-level coordination on public safety.
Currently, 3,100 cameras are active across the capital. With the new installation, that number will double. Officials noted these cameras have helped solve major cases like the Sardar Fahim murder and contributed to a steady drop in crime.
