Aashir Wajahat on acting, trolls & finding his own story

Published on: July 24, 2025 2:02 PM

Aashir Wajahat, the actor-musician who grew up in the spotlight, recently shared insights about his journey through Pakistan’s entertainment industry. In a candid conversation on Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt, Aashir spoke about growing up on set, handling social media pressure, and why his return to acting was both humbling and rewarding.

He recalled starting his career early, appearing in dramas and films like Mai Kukkoo Aur Woh and Karachi Se Lahore. “Acting felt natural. I memorised lines easily and loved being on set,” he said. However, the expectations of being from a well-known showbiz family eventually led him to take a step back and reevaluate his path.

Aashir returned to the big screen in 2023 with John, a film he credits for grounding him. “It was the only role I got at the time, and I’m glad I did it. It reminded me of how much effort goes into one project,” he shared. Though it didn’t catapult him to instant stardom, it changed his perspective on acting and fame.

Discussing the downside of media exposure, Aashir admitted to having a “bittersweet relationship” with social media. He has been frequently trolled—especially when his music or personal life gained attention. “I used to post everything, but now I only use social media to share work. I’ve learned to keep my personal life private,” he said.

Touching on the controversy around his viral videos with Hania Aamir, Aashir revealed how the backlash shaped his current approach. “A senior actor told me, ‘If you’re always seen with famous people, you’ll never be known for your own work.’ That stuck with me. Now, I focus on projects, not popularity.”
