Pakistan, Saudi Arabia pledge to boost defence ties

Published on: July 24, 2025 6:14 PM

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence ties. The development came during a high-level meeting in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Saudi Naval Chief Vice Admiral Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Ghuraybi met Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza at Joint Staff Headquarters. Both sides expressed a strong desire to enhance military cooperation. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the meeting and released an official statement.

During the talks, both leaders discussed evolving regional security issues in the Middle East and South Asia. They focused especially on maritime security challenges and opportunities.

General Mirza highlighted the historical and strategic brotherhood between the two countries. He also stressed the need to further expand defence cooperation. The meeting reflected shared goals in addressing complex regional dynamics together.

Earlier, a tri-services contingent presented a guard of honour to Vice Admiral Al Ghuraybi upon his arrival. This gesture symbolised mutual respect and deep-rooted military ties. It marked the beginning of what officials described as a productive and forward-looking discussion. The ceremony also reaffirmed the close bond between the two armed forces. Officials from both countries hailed the visit as a step towards stronger defence collaboration.

Earlier this week, Vice Admiral Al Ghuraybi also met Pakistan’s Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Their meeting focused on maritime security and operational cooperation. Both naval leaders pledged to expand their partnership and explore new areas of collaboration. The visit builds on longstanding defence relations and growing strategic trust between the nations. It also signals a mutual interest in securing maritime routes and joint training.

In a related development, CJCSC Mirza attended the 17th International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul. There, he held sideline meetings with Turkish and Azerbaijani defence officials. These engagements indicate Pakistan’s broader push for regional defence partnerships. Together, these efforts show Pakistan’s growing role in military diplomacy and strategic cooperation across the Muslim world.
