Heavy rains to hit Punjab, Murree at risk

Published on: July 26, 2025 12:38 PM

A new and powerful spell of monsoon rain is expected to begin across Punjab on July 28. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the rain will continue until July 31. Many districts across the province will receive heavy rain during this period. The PDMA has warned that the intense rainfall could cause landslides in Murree and Galiyat. People living in these areas should remain alert and avoid travel unless necessary.

The PDMA shared that several northern and central districts may be affected. These include Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, and Mandi Bahauddin. Rain is also expected in Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, and Hafizabad. Moreover, districts such as Narowal, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, and Toba Tek Singh are also at risk. Even areas like Nankana Sahib, Okara, and Khushab may see heavy downpours. Authorities have issued alerts in these regions to prepare for possible emergencies.

Meanwhile, from July 29 to 31, rain may hit southern parts of Punjab as well. Districts like Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, and Bhakkar are on the list. Other affected areas could include Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Pakpattan, and Vehari. These regions may face urban flooding and damage to weak buildings. The PDMA urged local bodies to remain on high alert during this time.

Officials warned that intense rain could damage mud houses and older buildings. Landslides may block roads and isolate remote areas. During the last rain spell, 252 people lost their lives across Punjab. Many homes and roads were destroyed in rain-related accidents. This history has made authorities more cautious ahead of the next wave of rain.

People have been advised to stay indoors and follow weather updates regularly. Emergency services are ready, but public cooperation is crucial. Families in high-risk areas should take safety steps now. The PDMA also asked people to report any emergencies without delay. With timely action, many lives and homes can be protected.
