UK’s Starmer pressures Israel to halt Gaza takeover

Published on: August 8, 2025 3:44 PM

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sharply criticized Israel’s latest military actions in Gaza. Speaking on Friday, he called Israel’s move to take control of Gaza “wrong” and urged the government in Jerusalem to reverse course. Starmer warned that escalating the conflict will only deepen the crisis. His remarks increase global pressure on Israel as calls for restraint grow louder.

Starmer made it clear that more violence will not resolve the conflict. He argued that expanding the offensive will not lead to peace or help free the remaining hostages. Instead, it risks further bloodshed and instability. He called on Israel to pursue diplomacy and focus on ending the war, not widening it.

This marks a significant shift in tone from the UK’s new leadership. Starmer, elected in a landslide just weeks ago, is signaling a firmer stance on Middle East policy. He reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to international law and human rights. His comments reflect rising frustration over the scale and direction of Israel’s campaign.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. Civilians face growing danger as basic supplies run low. Aid groups warn of severe shortages of food, water, and medicine. International bodies have urged an immediate ceasefire. Starmer’s statement aligns with these global appeals to end the suffering.

In closing, Prime Minister Starmer joined a growing chorus of world leaders demanding change. He warned that force alone cannot bring peace. His call was clear, urgent, and direct. Now, attention turns to how Israel will respond. The path forward remains uncertain, but international voices are demanding a new direction.
