Dar strengthens ties with Egypt, Algeria at OIC

Published on: August 26, 2025 4:14 PM

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar pledged to strengthen Pakistan’s relations with Egypt and Algeria during his visit to Jeddah. He met both nations’ foreign ministers on the sidelines of the OIC meeting on Tuesday. Dar called the talks a “meaningful interaction” and emphasized increased cooperation and connectivity. He stated that Pakistan seeks broader partnerships in trade, education, and health with the two North African countries. The leaders also discussed enhancing cultural and diplomatic links rooted in shared religion and values.

During the meetings, Dar and the ministers addressed Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza. They urged immediate humanitarian access and a complete ceasefire in the region. All three highlighted the need for unity in the Muslim world during these difficult times. Dar condemned Israel’s expansionist policies and its actions in Gaza City. He stressed that peace and justice for Palestinians must remain a global priority.

At the OIC’s 21st extraordinary session, Dar took a strong stance against Israel’s Gaza offensive. He proposed seven urgent steps to stop the violence and ensure peace. Pakistan also supported a joint statement by 31 Arab-Islamic countries denouncing Israel’s actions. Dar welcomed the calls for sanctions made by Algeria’s UN envoy. He described Israel’s Gaza plans as a direct threat to peace in the region.

Earlier this year, Pakistan and Egypt had agreed to boost cooperation in health, especially in fighting Hepatitis C. Al-Azhar University of Egypt also planned to set up a campus in Pakistan. These developments reflect growing ties between the two nations. Dar’s latest meetings aim to build on these shared goals and expand the partnership further. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to lasting and meaningful collaboration with both Egypt and Algeria.

In addition to these talks, Dar also met Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. They appreciated Turkiye’s role in leading the OIC session and voiced strong support for Palestine. The ministers stressed the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza. They also committed to deepening Pakistan-Türkiye relations across many sectors. Dar held similar meetings with top diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Malaysia, and Bangladesh, further pushing Pakistan’s regional diplomacy forward.
