Rains to batter Islamabad and Punjab till Wednesday

Published on: September 1, 2025 4:54 PM

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned of heavy rains in Islamabad and Punjab districts from Monday through Wednesday. The rain is expected to worsen flooding in already-hit areas like Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. Authorities urged residents to stay alert as the flood situation may intensify.

Flood risks remain high in regions including Murree, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan, and Rahim Yar Khan. Heavy rainfall in upper areas and rising river flows may trigger stronger floods near Marala Headworks. Punjab faces one of its worst floods, with nearly two million people affected so far.

Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) officials reported 33 flood-related deaths and warned of peak water levels in the River Ravi. The floodwaters threaten villages around Head Balloki, Okara, Sahiwal, and Khanewal. Authorities expect 135,000 cusecs of water to reach Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar soon.

Residents in low-lying and stream-adjacent areas should avoid unnecessary travel and stay vigilant. The NDMA urged public institutions to prepare and take precautionary measures immediately. They advised against crossing submerged roads, bridges, and streams during high water flow.

NDMA also directed local agencies to ready machinery and pumps for quick drainage in vulnerable zones. The public is urged to follow safety warnings and avoid flood-prone areas to prevent casualties. Authorities continue monitoring the situation closely amid ongoing heavy rains.
