Pakistan to witness rare blood moon lunar eclipse tonight

Published on: September 7, 2025 4:54 PM

People across Pakistan will have the rare chance to witness a spectacular “Blood Moon” tonight, as a total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout the country, weather permitting.

According to the Meteorological Department, the event will begin with the moon dimming at 8:28pm, while the partial eclipse starts at 9:27pm. The total eclipse will commence at 10:31pm and last until 11:53pm.

The peak of the eclipse will occur at 11:12pm, giving skywatchers the clearest view of the Moon’s deep red glow. The entire phenomenon will end at 1:55am on September 8.

This rare celestial event will also be visible across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and parts of the Americas, though the best viewing conditions are expected in Asia, including Pakistan, India, and China.

Experts explain the Moon turns red during a total lunar eclipse because sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, scattering shorter blue wavelengths and allowing only longer red wavelengths to reach the lunar surface.

While solar eclipses require protective glasses, lunar eclipses can be safely observed with the naked eye. Clear skies will give stargazers a perfect opportunity to enjoy this rare natural spectacle tonight.
