India has released additional water into the Sutlej River, raising flood concerns in Pakistan. The Indian High Commission informed Pakistan about the increased water release. Following this, Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources issued a flood alert for Punjab. Officials warned that the water flow in the Sutlej River will increase further.
Currently, the Sutlej River is experiencing high flood levels at Harike Downstream and Ferozepur Downstream. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a high-level flood alert. They advised authorities to ensure the safety of people and property in affected areas. India had also released water into the river yesterday.
PDMA Punjab reported that water flow at Ganda Singh Wala is 230,000 cusecs. At Suleimanki, the flood level is high with 137,000 cusecs flowing. The Chenab River at Marala has a flow of 62,000 cusecs, while flows at other key points like Khanki Headworks and Qadirabad are near 98,000 cusecs. At Head Trimmu, water flow reaches 250,000 cusecs.
The highest flood level is at Panjnad, with water flow reaching 475,000 cusecs. PDMA Punjab continues to monitor the situation closely. Authorities have urged residents near these rivers to stay alert and take precautions. The flood alert remains active as water levels continue to rise.
