President Zardari arrives in Chengdu for official visit to China

Published on: September 12, 2025 6:41 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Chengdu, China, on Friday to begin a 10-day official visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan-China ties. He was warmly received at Chengdu Airport by China’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Deputy Governor. Pakistan’s Ambassador Khalid Hashmi and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong were also present.

During the visit, President Zardari will meet China’s top leadership. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, and infrastructure. Strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a key goal.

President Zardari plans to explore new avenues of collaboration, reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to their tested friendship. Both sides are expected to sign agreements and initiate joint projects. The visit also aims to boost regional connectivity and economic integration.

Meanwhile, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch clarified during a weekly briefing that the visit was not sudden but had been scheduled well in advance. She said both countries had completed all necessary preparations ahead of the trip.

President Zardari’s visit reflects the importance Pakistan places on its relationship with China. It also highlights ongoing efforts to deepen economic, diplomatic, and strategic cooperation between the two “iron brothers.”
