Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level special meeting to address losses of flood- victims caused by recent floods. She directed all relevant stakeholders to initiate comprehensive rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected people. The Punjab government has decided to launch a large-scale flood relief and rehabilitation operation across the province.
During the meeting, it was agreed to establish Flood Relief Committees at district and tehsil levels along with developing survey forms, a mobile application and a central monitoring dashboard to ensure effective aid distribution and oversight. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will personally monitor relief operations through dashboard. Madam Chief Minister directed relevant authorities to devise the simplest and most effective procedures for providing assistance to flood victims. She also directed to ensure immediate restoration of roads, bridges, and damaged infrastructure in flood-affected areas.
According to a detailed briefing given by Revenue Department, recent devastating floods have impacted 3,775 villages across 64 tehsils in 27 districts of Punjab. A total of 63,200 concrete houses and 309,684 mud houses have been reported damaged. They further informed that survey teams will include representatives from the Urban Unit, Revenue Department, Agriculture Department, and Pakistan Army to ensure comprehensive and accurate data collection.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to completely support and rehabilitate flood-affected population across Punjab. She emphasized that the government must proactively reach out to those in need and ensure that no victim is left without provision of any rescue and relief.
She directed to establish more relief camps and distribution points to facilitate timely aid delivery. She said, “We must help flood victims wholeheartedly.” She affirmed, “We will compensate each individual for their losses so that no one is deprived of their rightful relief.”
Separately, Maryam Nawaz inaugurated electric Bus Project in Sargodha, unveiling a series of major public welfare announcements aimed at transforming transport, health, and disaster relief sectors in the province.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Madam Chief Minister announced that 60 electric buses will become operational within Sargodha city and 105 electric buses will be operationalized in Sargodha Division. She reiterated her commitment to ensure free travel for women, senior citizens, students and special persons, emphasizing the importance of accessible and dignified public transport for all.
The Chief Minister further declared that fully damaged houses due to flooding will be compensated with Rs. 1 million, while partially damaged houses will receive Rs. 500,000. She announced that rehabilitation operations for flood victims will start within two weeks. She reaffirmed, “Maryam Nawaz Sharif will not rest until last flood victim is safely rehabilitated and resettled in his home.”
Chief Minister highlighted that Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha, a long-awaited facility has been made operational within one year and will soon be fully functional. She announced that top cardiologists and surgeons are being posted in the institute and accommodation is being provided for medical staff to ensure round-the-clock patient care.
In a significant medical breakthrough, she revealed that Pakistan is the only country in Asia apart from China using Co-Ablation technology for non-surgical treatment of cancer through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She apprised that the Co-Ablation Center at Mayo Hospital Lahore is already operational, providing free treatment costing Rs. 1.6 million per patient. She disclosed that similar facilities will be established in Rawalpindi, Multan and in the second phase in Sargodha. Commenting on recent devastating floods in Punjab, Madam Chief Minister said that the province faced worst flooding in decades, affecting 27 districts and over 5,000 villages. Over 2.5 million people and 2.2 million livestock were rescued and relocated to safer areas. She stated that relief teams delivered food, medicines and milk even to remote areas 10 miles away from main routes.
