Pakistan Highlights Women Empowerment at UN

Published on: September 23, 2025 8:14 AM

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to women empowerment during the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar addressed the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in New York. He highlighted Pakistan’s legislative and institutional measures for protecting and promoting women.

Dar mentioned the National and Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women, gender-based violence courts, and women police stations. He also noted progressive laws to safeguard women against harassment, discrimination, and violence. These steps, he said, show Pakistan’s long-term commitment to gender equality.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted social programs like the Benazir Income Support Program and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program. These initiatives support women in overcoming poverty, accessing finance, and pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities. He emphasized the importance of economic empowerment for lasting gender equality.

Dar stressed that Pakistan’s women hold leadership roles in politics, judiciary, civil service, law enforcement, and the armed forces. The country elected the first female Prime Minister in the Muslim world and recently the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab.

He urged the global community to act with urgency and solidarity to ensure women empowerment worldwide. He called for protecting women from poverty and violence and enabling them to contribute to sustainable development.
