World’s tallest dam powered by AI nears completion in China

Published on: September 23, 2025 5:41 PM

China has built the world’s tallest dam using artificial intelligence (AI). Located in Xinjiang, the dam stands 247 meters tall. This height equals an 80-story building. The dam is a concrete-faced rock fill type, known for safety and cost efficiency. Its construction used advanced technologies like AI, digital twins, and blockchain.

The Dashixia dam project is nearly complete, months ahead of schedule. Machines worked autonomously without human drivers. This high-tech approach helped overcome challenges like earthquakes and rough terrain. Officials say the dam will store 1.17 billion cubic meters of water. It will irrigate over 533,000 hectares of farmland in the Tarim and Aksu river basins.

Additionally, the dam will produce 750,000 kilowatts of electricity. It can generate 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours yearly, enough to power millions of homes. China focused on environmental protection by releasing 140,000 fish near the dam. The project shows how AI can improve large infrastructure efficiency and safety.

Chinese media compared the construction to “3D printing” for its precision. Experts praise the dam’s design for resisting earthquakes better than other types. The dam’s AI-driven construction marks a new milestone in engineering and technology. It symbolizes China’s growing strength in digital innovation and infrastructure development.

The Dashixia dam is expected to be fully operational next year. It highlights the role of AI in future construction projects worldwide. China’s success could inspire similar smart infrastructure efforts globally. This dam stands as a powerful example of technology transforming traditional industries.
