Thousands protest Netanyahu’s NYC visit over Gaza war

Published on: September 27, 2025 2:41 PM

Thousands of protesters gathered in New York City on Friday against Israel’s war in Gaza. They marched from Times Square to the United Nations building. Protesters waved Palestinian flags and wore traditional keffiyeh scarves. They carried banners with messages like “Free Palestine” and “Stop starving Gaza.” The protest reflected deep anger over the ongoing conflict.

During the march, demonstrators chanted slogans accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of genocide. They demanded an immediate arms embargo on Israel. This protest coincided with Netanyahu’s visit to the UN General Assembly, where he was scheduled to speak. The protest highlighted strong opposition to his policies on Gaza.

In his speech, Netanyahu criticized Western countries for supporting Palestinian statehood. Many UN delegates walked out during his address in protest. The conflict in Gaza has killed tens of thousands and displaced the entire population. Human rights experts claim Israel’s actions amount to genocide, a charge Israel rejects.

Israel calls its actions self-defense following Hamas’s deadly October 2023 attack. That attack killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. Meanwhile, the Gaza war has become a key issue in New York City politics. Pro-Palestinian mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani condemned Netanyahu’s visit strongly.

In contrast, current Mayor Eric Adams said he was proud to meet Netanyahu. The Gaza conflict remains a divisive issue among city leaders and residents. The protests showed the powerful emotions surrounding this ongoing crisis. They also emphasized growing calls for peace and justice in the region.
