Pakistan, Germany eye stronger trade and investment

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met German Ambassador Anna Lippel on Monday to discuss ways of boosting economic cooperation, enhancing bilateral trade, and attracting new investments into Pakistan’s economy. The meeting focused on building stronger economic ties between the two countries, while highlighting Pakistan’s efforts to create an enabling environment for foreign businesses. Both sides reaffirmed their shared interest in promoting deeper collaboration across multiple sectors.

During the meeting, Aurangzeb expressed appreciation for Germany’s consistent financial and technical support, which has played a crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s economy over the years. He provided an update on the country’s improving economic indicators, the ongoing IMF review mission, and the government’s progress on structural reforms. The minister emphasized that these reforms are designed to stabilize the economy while creating long-term opportunities for domestic and foreign investors alike.

Aurangzeb also highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of involving the private sector as a key driver of national development. He assured the German envoy that international investors, particularly German businesses, would be provided with full support and facilitation in their operations. According to him, Pakistan’s policy direction is focused on encouraging sustainable growth, increasing competitiveness, and expanding its global trade footprint.

Ambassador Anna Lippel underlined Germany’s interest in further strengthening economic relations with Pakistan. She emphasized the importance of promoting bilateral trade and investment while reaffirming Berlin’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic growth. The envoy acknowledged Pakistan’s reform efforts and noted that German companies are keen to explore opportunities in areas such as manufacturing, renewable energy, and infrastructure development.

Both sides agreed that deeper collaboration would not only strengthen bilateral trade but also contribute to regional economic stability. They expressed optimism about future partnerships that could deliver mutual benefits. By enhancing cooperation in diverse sectors, Pakistan and Germany aim to build a stronger foundation for long-term economic growth and prosperity.
