KMC hosts qawwali night to pay tribute to Ameer Khusro

Published on: October 6, 2025 11:35 PM

In line with the directives of reviving the rich cultural and historical heritage of Karachi, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) organized a soulful Qawwali Night in honor of Hazrat Ameer Khusro, one of the most celebrated poets, musicians, and scholars of the subcontinent on his 770 anniversary.

The event, held on Sunday evening at the historic Frere Hall, served as a vibrant celebration of the city’s diverse cultural traditions. A large number of citizens, literary enthusiasts, and culture lovers attended the program, filling the heritage site with an atmosphere of reverence and joy.

The evening featured a mesmerizing performance by the renowned Abu Fareed Qawwal Group, whose powerful renditions of Ameer Khusro’s kalaam captivated the audience. The melodies echoed through the lawns of Frere Hall, transporting listeners into the mystical world of Sufi poetry and music that Khusro pioneered centuries ago.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressed his commitment to promoting art, literature, and culture in the metropolis. He said that the revival of cultural activities is essential to restore Karachi’s identity as a city of lights, creativity, and inclusivity.

“Karachi has always been a cradle of culture and harmony. Through such events, we aim to reconnect our citizens-especially the younger generation-with our historical and artistic roots,” said Mayor Wahab.

The Mayor also announced that KMC will continue to organize similar cultural and recreational programs across the city on a regular basis to encourage public participation and foster a sense of community belonging.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, which organized the event under the KMC umbrella, has been actively working on initiatives that highlight the city’s artistic potential and historical significance. The Qawwali Night, dedicated to Ameer Khusro, symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter in Karachi’s cultural revival, merging the city’s modern rhythm with its timeless traditions.

The attendees appreciated KMC’s efforts in providing citizens with safe, engaging, and inspiring spaces for cultural expression, calling it a much-needed step toward restoring the aesthetic and spiritual essence of Karachi.
