
GUJRAT — The University of Gujrat (UoG) paid glowing tributes to the pivotal role of teachers in shaping society as the Student Services Centre and UoG Debating Society jointly organized a ceremony to mark World Teachers’ Day at the Hafiz Hayat Campus on Monday. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Zahid Yousaf, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Faisal Mahmood Mirza, renowned educationist Shamraiz Iqbal, Dr. Sher Zaman, Dr. Muhammad Zubair, department heads, college principals, and faculty members.
Observed globally on October 5, World Teachers’ Day honors the invaluable contributions of educators in guiding communities and building nations. Speakers at the event underscored that teachers are not merely transmitters of knowledge but also mentors who shape character, foster critical thinking, and inspire lifelong learning. Prof. Dr. Zahid Yousaf emphasized the dual responsibility of educators in fostering both intellectual curiosity and moral development. Prof. Dr. Faisal Mahmood Mirza highlighted that cultivating creativity and analytical thinking remains central to the mission of teaching.
Shamraiz Iqbal described teaching as a sacred calling, noting that respect for educators elevates the dignity of an entire society. Dr. Sher Zaman urged teachers to promote positive values and prioritize students’ intellectual and ethical growth. At the same time, Dr. Muhammad Zubair underlined their role in refining personalities and guiding students toward meaningful lives.
The ceremony featured a cake-cutting, a tableau performance by students, and moving speeches by members of the UoG Debating Society. Student representatives expressed heartfelt admiration for their mentors, hailing teachers as the true architects of civilization and indispensable to national progress.
