PTI Nominates Sohail Afridi for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister

PTI backs Sohail Afridi for KP CM as assembly session called amid political heat

PESHAWAR– In a significant late-night development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has officially nominated Sohail Afridi as its candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting held at the Speaker’s House, attended by PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, KPK Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, provincial president Junaid Akbar, and several party lawmakers.

Sohail Afridi was present at the meeting, where party leaders and assembly members expressed unanimous confidence in his nomination. The leadership also resolved to follow constitutional and parliamentary procedures for the CM election.

Sources revealed that amid legal complexities over Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation, a fresh handwritten resignation letter has been drafted and will be forwarded to the Governor of KPK. Insiders believe this step could eliminate the need for a no-confidence motion.

After the meeting, PTI’s provincial president Junaid Akbar said the party currently holds 92 votes and is aiming to secure 100 votes with potential alliances. He added that talks are underway with other parties for additional support in the upcoming vote.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session has been scheduled for 3:00 PM today, where PTI is also expected to address recent allegations made against the party. With the political temperature in KPK rising, the next 24 hours are being seen as critical in determining the province’s future leadership and political direction.
