Messi brace lifts Inter, Mueller grabs game-winner for Whitecaps

MIAMI – Lionel Messi scored twice as Inter Miami beat Atlanta United 4–0, taking the lead in Major League Soccer’s scoring race with 26 goals this season.

Messi opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a curling left-footed strike and sealed the win in the 87th minute after assists from Jordi Alba, who also scored earlier in the match.

Luis Suarez added Miami’s third goal, while Alba’s goal came as the club honored him ahead of his planned retirement at season’s end.

With the win, Miami moved level with Cincinnati on 62 points, four behind Philadelphia, who have already clinched the Supporters Shield.

The game also marked Miami’s final home match at their current stadium before moving to Miami Freedom Park next season.

In other action, Thomas Muller scored a stoppage-time winner to lift the Vancouver Whitecaps past Orlando City 2–1, moving Vancouver to the top of the Western Conference with 63 points.
