MALAKAND – At least fifteen people, including several children, were killed on Thursday when a truck plunged into a ravine on the Swat Expressway, rescue officials said.

The vehicle was carrying a group of nomads travelling from Bahrain, Swat, when it veered off the road and fell into the deep ravine. Eight others were injured and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fayaz confirmed that most of the deceased were children.

The tragic crash has once again raised concerns about road safety in Pakistan, where traffic accidents are frequent due to poor infrastructure, speeding, and vehicle overloading.

Earlier this month, seven nomads — including six family members — were killed and six others injured when a speeding truck ran over workers sleeping roadside near Kuddan Hotel in Shikarpur.

Road safety experts say such incidents are becoming alarmingly common across Pakistan, with inadequate enforcement of traffic rules and poorly maintained highways contributing to rising fatalities.
