ECP announces by-polls in Punjab on Nov 23

Published on: October 21, 2025 7:21 AM

The ECP has released a revised schedule for by-elections in Punjab, with polling set to take place on November 23, 2025.

According to sources from the Election Commissioner’s office in Punjab, by-elections will be conducted in five constituencies across Faisalabad and Sahiwal, specifically in NA-96, NA-104, NA-143, PP-98, and PP-203.

The last date for filing appeals against decisions of Returning Officers is October 24, while the Appellate Tribunal will rule on all appeals by October 31.

The revised list of candidates will be published on November 1, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 3. Election symbols will be allotted on November 4.

The schedule has been issued under the provisions of the Election Act, 2017. The Election Commission has also instructed all stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with the code of conduct throughout the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the ECP has announced October 31 as the last date for receiving applications for postal ballot papers in connection with the by-election for NA-18 Haripur.

According to the ECP release issued here, the facility of postal ballot is available to government employees, members of the armed forces, and their spouses and children, provided they are registered voters residing with them outside their home constituency.

The Commission added that persons with disabilities who are unable to travel and possess a NADRA-issued CNIC bearing the disability logo, as well as prisoners in custody or serving sentences, are also eligible to vote through postal ballots.

Additionally, individuals assigned election duties including police personnel who are registered voters have been instructed to submit their postal ballot applications to the Returning Officer within three days of their appointment.

The ECP clarified that voters who are issued postal ballots will not be allowed to cast their votes at polling stations. Each application must be duly verified by the applicant’s department or office to prevent unauthorized submissions.
