ISLAMABAD — Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Bangladesh’s top military leadership have agreed to enhance defence and security collaboration between the two countries, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

During an official visit to Bangladesh, Gen Mirza met Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, and Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen S.M. Kamrul Hassan. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military-to-military engagements and regional cooperation.

According to the ISPR, discussions focused on the evolving global and regional security environment, with both countries recognizing the need to strengthen bilateral defence ties. Gen Mirza highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding fraternal relations with Bangladesh and expressed resolve to deepen ties based on mutual respect and sovereign equality.

Gen Mirza also visited the School of Infantry and Tactics in Sylhet, where he interacted with faculty and students. The Bangladeshi civil-military leadership appreciated the professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.

The CJCSC was accorded a guard of honour at Senakunjo and laid a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka. The visit marks a continued thaw in Islamabad-Dhaka ties following last year’s political transition in Bangladesh, which has opened new avenues for trade and strategic cooperation.
