Russia strikes Ukrainian gas site in Poltava, fire erupts

Published on: November 1, 2025 1:56 PM

KYIV – A Russian attack overnight caused a fire at a Ukrainian gas production site in the Poltava region, Ukraine’s emergency services reported on Saturday. The blaze broke out around midnight and was contained after several hours of firefighting.

The strike is part of a broader campaign targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. State energy company Naftogaz confirmed that gas facilities have been attacked at least eight times since October, affecting production and supply in several regions.

Russian forces have intensified strikes on Ukraine’s energy sector in recent months. Officials say these attacks aim to disrupt heating, electricity, and industrial operations, especially as winter approaches.

Local firefighters and emergency crews responded promptly to the Poltava site. While no casualties have been reported, authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage and potential safety risks.

The attacks underline the strategic importance of Ukraine’s energy facilities in the ongoing conflict. Analysts warn that repeated strikes could have wider economic and humanitarian impacts if they continue.
