PESHAWAR: Three police officers, including a station house officer (SHO), were injured on Sunday when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a police convoy during a search operation near a cemetery in Hangu’s Doaba area.

Police official Saqib said the explosion occurred in Paracha graveyard near the Karbogha area as officers were conducting a search operation. SHO Imranuddin, Head Constable Jihad Ali, and Constable Abid Ali sustained injuries and were shifted to Hangu District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

The attack came just two days after the federal interior ministry issued a security alert warning of possible terrorist activity targeting law enforcement personnel in the Hangu and Orakzai districts. The alert had cautioned that militants might use an explosives-laden motorcycle to strike police checkpoints or security officials.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Tank district’s Lali Khel area, security forces killed Abu Dujana — an Afghan national and specialist bombmaker — during an intelligence-led raid. Authorities recovered a 30kg IED, a suicide vest, grenades, small arms, and ammunition from the site. Officials said two or three other militants escaped with injuries during the encounter.

In another incident, locals in Balochistan’s Kalat district helped prevent a major tragedy by reporting explosives planted under a bridge in the Johan area. Security forces defused the 10kg locally manufactured bomb, which was reportedly intended to destroy key infrastructure. An investigation into the incident is underway.
