Balochistan operation rescues Karachi transporters

Published on: November 6, 2025 12:48 PM

KARACHI: A joint operation by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), Crime Investigation Agency (CIA Police), and Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in Sohrab, Balochistan, successfully recovered two transporters, Amir and Shahzeb, who had been abducted from Karachi’s Garden area on September 23. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 3 billion. SSP Asif Raza Baloch confirmed that an operation to arrest the culprits is ongoing, based on technical intelligence from Balochistan.

In a separate incident, the gunman of Liaquat Mehsood, President of the All Dumper Truck Owners Association, has been arrested for opening fire on protestors in Karachi’s Ramswami area. The shooting occurred after a garbage dumper ran over a motorcyclist, killing him and injuring his wife, prompting enraged locals to damage and set the dumper on fire. Police recovered a weapon from the suspect and registered cases against both the dumper driver and Liaquat Mehsood’s associates under charges including culpable homicide and negligence.

Raids are ongoing to apprehend Liaquat Mehsood, who reportedly fled the scene with 20 to 25 armed men. Citizens have expressed widespread outrage over the increasing number of accidents involving dumpers, demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws and accountability for reckless drivers.

Another recent accident near Hospital Chowrangi in Landhi involved a speeding dumper that ran over two motorcyclists, killing 20-year-old Kashan and injuring 19-year-old Javed, further intensifying public concern over road safety.
