Salman Khan faces legal notice over alleged misleading pan masala ad

Salman Khan faces legal trouble over pan masala advertisement
MUMBAI – Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has found himself entangled in fresh legal trouble after being accused of misleading consumers by endorsing a pan masala brand.

According to reports, the Kota Consumer Court has issued a notice to Salman Khan over his advertisement for Rajshree Pan Masala, following a complaint filed by Inder Mohan Singh Huni, a senior BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court lawyer.

Huni alleged that the advertisement falsely claims the product contains “saffron-blended cardamom” and “saffron-flavored pan masala.” He argued that such claims are deceptive, pointing out that saffron costs nearly ₹4 lakh per kilogram, making it highly improbable for it to be an ingredient in a product retailing at just ₹5.

The petitioner also criticized the ad for encouraging youth to consume pan masala, which is often associated with serious health risks, including oral cancer. “Salman Khan is a role model for millions,” Huni told reporters. “In many countries, celebrities avoid endorsing even soft drinks, yet here our film stars promote harmful products like tobacco and pan masala.”

The court has sought a formal response from Salman Khan, and the next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 27.
