LOS ANGELES: FX has officially cancelled its comedy series English Teacher after two seasons. The show, starring and created by Brian Jordan Alvarez as Evan Marquez, recently wrapped its second season before the network announced the decision.
The network did not provide a specific reason for the cancellation. Notably, allegations of sexual assault had been previously made against Alvarez by his ex-friend Jon Ebeling, but FX stated that these claims were reviewed prior to the show’s first season and did not impact the renewal of the second season.
In English Teacher, Alvarez’s character navigates life as a gay man and a high school teacher in Austin, dealing with challenging students, demanding parents, and complex personal relationships. The series had premiered in September 2024 and received generally favorable reviews.
FX’s representative commented, “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”
The cancellation marks the end of a brief but praised run for the series, which had gained a loyal fanbase for its witty humor and heartfelt storytelling.
